An offsider for Perth plumbers
Perth runs the better part of a hundred and fifty kilometres from Joondalup to Mandurah, so the constraint on a Perth run is the driving rather than the paperwork, two jobs in the same city can be ninety minutes apart. What is unusual about the work itself is the water: rain has to be kept on the block it falls on, and on much of the coastal plain you find the water table before you have finished digging.
yo drizzy is a set of AI agents for trade businesses. Tell Drizzy what needs doing and he books it, texts the crew, writes the quote and chases the invoice, what that looks like for plumbers.
What you would say, in Perth
What is different about plumbers in Perth
The part nobody puts on a page like this, because it takes longer than swapping a city name in. yo drizzy does not lodge any of it for you. Knowing it is on you, and knowing which job it attaches to is the bit software can actually help with.
Dig far enough and you are dewatering
On the coastal plain the water table is not far down, so a deep drainage run or a pit can be into groundwater before the trench is finished. Where a project involves dewatering, or affects the council’s stormwater system, the approvals have to be in place before work starts rather than sorted out once the hole is full. On a job that was quoted as a day, that is the difference between a day and a fortnight.
Ninety minutes between two jobs in the same city
Joondalup to Mandurah is most of a hundred and fifty kilometres, and Perth has no second city to absorb the sprawl. A callout accepted in the northern suburbs when the crew is south of the river is not a scheduling detail, it is most of an afternoon. The useful question is never just who is free, it is who is free and already near it.
Working in Perth
The rain that lands on the block stays on the block
The City of Perth puts it in four words, stormwater to be retained on site. Direct disposal into the council system is something that may be approved in exceptional circumstances, not the default, and where there is no adjoining street drainage or the existing system cannot take the flow, the owner applies to have the council system extended or upgraded. This is why soakwells are a normal line on a Perth quote and a foreign idea in Sydney, and why leaving them off is not a small omission.
The management plan comes before the permit, not with it
Where a construction or demolition management plan is required as a condition of development approval, it goes to the City of Perth Development Approvals Unit before you apply for the building or demolition permit. If it has not been approved, the permit cannot issue. That is an ordering rule rather than a paperwork rule, and getting it backwards does not cost you a form, it stops the job while everybody waits for a document somebody thought was a formality.
And WA, wherever in it you are standing
Twenty four hours notice, before you turn up
Major plumbing work needs a Notice of Intention lodged at least twenty four hours before you start, and a Certificate of Compliance within five working days of finishing. Emergency work is the exception, then both go in together within five working days. Read the first one as a scheduling rule rather than a paperwork rule: a job moved forward to tomorrow morning is a job whose notice had to go in this morning, and no amount of goodwill fixes that after the fact.
Major or minor is about what you did, not what it cost
Western Australia draws the line by the kind of work rather than by a dollar figure. Installing, altering, extending or replacing a water supply, sanitary or drainage system is major. Testing, maintaining, repairing or replacing what is already there is minor. Nobody has to add up materials and GST to know which side they are on, which is simpler than Victoria, but it also means a small job can be major work and a large bill can be minor.
Questions Perth plumbers ask
Does yo drizzy know the Western Australia rules?
It keeps your jobs, your dates and your money straight, which is what the paperwork runs on, but it is not a compliance product and does not lodge anything with a regulator for you. What is on this page about WA and about Perth is sourced and dated below, so you can check any of it against the government page it came from.
I work across 7 council areas. Does that matter?
Not to yo drizzy, a job is an address, a day and who is on it. It matters to you, though: City of Perth, Fremantle, Stirling and the rest each have their own forms and their own turnaround. What this helps with is remembering which job is waiting on which one, because that is the part people lose.
