An offsider for Sydney electricians

Two jobs eleven kilometres apart in Sydney can sit in different council areas, on different electricity networks, under different permitted working hours, and the drive between them can take an hour. Nothing about that is visible from the address, which is why the answer to "can we fit that in Thursday" is a genuinely harder question here than anywhere else in the country.

yo drizzy is a set of AI agents for trade businesses. Tell Drizzy what needs doing and he books it, texts the crew, writes the quote and chases the invoice, what that looks like for electricians.

What you would say, in Sydney

switchboard upgrade in balmain thursday, jake and the apprentice Thursday. Both texted, with the address.
is the penrith job ausgrid or endeavour? Penrith is Endeavour. I have put that on the job so it is there Thursday.
add two circuits and a fan to the bondi quote Added. The quote is now $1,240. Send it?

What is different about electricians in Sydney

The part nobody puts on a page like this, because it takes longer than swapping a city name in. yo drizzy does not lodge any of it for you. Knowing it is on you, and knowing which job it attaches to is the bit software can actually help with.

The network changes on you around Parramatta

Sydney is not one distributor. Ausgrid has the east and north, the CBD, the eastern suburbs, the inner west, the north shore and the northern beaches. Endeavour Energy has the west and south west, which means Parramatta, Blacktown, Liverpool, Penrith and Campbelltown, along with the Blue Mountains and the Illawarra. Your CCEW, your notification and whoever you ring about a defect all depend on which of the two the address sits in, and the boundary does not follow anything you can see from the street.

A hundred years of wiring behind one wall

Paddington, Glebe, Surry Hills and Balmain are terraces that have been wired, rewired, extended and subdivided since before the wiring rules existed. What is actually in the wall is a question rather than an assumption, and the answer changes the price halfway through the job. That is a variation, and a variation agreed standing in somebody’s hallway is a variation nobody has written down.

Working in Sydney

Two sets of clocks inside one council

The EPA recommends construction runs 7am to 6pm on weekdays and 8am to 1pm Saturday, with nothing on Sundays or public holidays. The City of Sydney is tighter than that and not uniform: 7am to 7pm weekdays and 7am to 5pm Saturday in the city centre, but 7.30am to 5.30pm weekdays and 7.30am to 3.30pm Saturday everywhere else in the same local government area. Same council, two answers, decided by which street the job is in. A 7am start that is fine in the CBD is half an hour early in Redfern.

The kerb outside the job is an application

You cannot simply park in front of the house. A works zone, the length of kerb where construction vehicles are allowed to stop, is applied for and paid for. Anything that stands and operates rather than delivers, so a concrete truck, a pump, a crane or a cherry picker, wants a standing plant permit as well. Even the van has its own paperwork: a City of Sydney tradesperson parking permit costs $80 and takes about ten days to come back. Ten days is the number that matters, because it is longer than most people book work in advance.

And NSW, wherever in it you are standing

The CCEW, and the three places it has to go

A Certificate of Compliance Electrical Work is not one submission. The customer gets a copy, the network operator gets a copy where the work touches their side, and it has to be done inside seven days of finishing. Three copies of one form for a job you have already been paid for is the definition of the thing nobody does on Friday afternoon.

AS/NZS 3000, and the testing that proves it

The installation has to comply with the Wiring Rules and be tested as required before the certificate means anything. The certificate is you saying you did the testing. It is worth having the job, the times and who was on it written down somewhere that is not your memory, because the certificate outlives all three.

Questions Sydney electricians ask

Does yo drizzy know the New South Wales rules?

It keeps your jobs, your dates and your money straight, which is what the paperwork runs on, but it is not a compliance product and does not lodge anything with a regulator for you. What is on this page about NSW and about Sydney is sourced and dated below, so you can check any of it against the government page it came from.

I work across 6 council areas. Does that matter?

Not to yo drizzy, a job is an address, a day and who is on it. It matters to you, though: City of Sydney, Inner West, Waverley and the rest each have their own forms and their own turnaround. What this helps with is remembering which job is waiting on which one, because that is the part people lose.
